Berkshire Hardwoods, Inc. (BHI) was founded in February of 1987 in Cheshire, Massachusetts by its owner and president, Jeff Poirier. There were only five employees the first year with limited production of 850,000 board feet being sawn that first year. The company soon outgrew the Cheshire facility and moved to its current location in Chesterfield, Massachusetts in September of 1989.
Currently BHI has 21 employees producing over 5 million board feet of quality hardwoods a year. BHI is the largest hardwood producing mill in Massachusetts and the only one to be grade certified by the National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA). Our president Jeff Poirier is a director of the NHLA board, elected to that position on September 12, 2002.
The Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts are widely regarded for producing some of the finest hardwoods found anywhere. Species include Red Oak, Ash, Yellow and Black Birch, Hard and Soft Maple and Eastern White Pine.
BHI is a family owned and operated business that has been providing quality products and friendly, personalized service to our customers in Berkshire and Hampshire County since it was founded in 1987. We are committed to remaining a hands-on, family operation concerned with quality and our customer’s needs.
